Disclosure: My friend Rita received the following for review. All opinions are her own.
My son loves his stuffed animals and even though he has a room full of them, he continues to want more. While I told myself no more animals, I just couldn’t help myself when I heard about Operation ResCUTE. Operation ResCUTE is storybook and plush dog (my son’s favorite things) packaged together.
What I love about Operation ResCUTE is that it tells the true story of little dogs that are rescued from the streets and adopted. Operation ResCUTE began when Laurie Brown-Nagin saw an Animal Control Officer carrying a puppy to a veterinarian. Laurie fell in love with Jingles, the shelter dog that needed a caring home. Laurie learned that only 30 percent of pets in homes come from shelters and rescue organizations and only an estimated 2.7 million healthy pets remain in shelters each year. Inspired by this revelation, Laurie began a non-profit, www.OperationRescute.com to package this boxed set to empower readers to make a difference. Most importantly, 100% of the profits are donated to help rescue animals get adopted.
The book and toy come packaged in a cage-like gift box just like so many dogs that are in shelters looking to be adopted into a loving home. The stories are all told from the dogs’ perspective. Jingles is the first dog in the Operation ResCUTE series and her story is about her journey on the streets of New York City and eventually being rescued and adopted into a wonderful home. Her story is embedded with themes of resilience and hope. The story inspires people to think about adopting and rescuing dogs from shelters.
My son enjoyed reading about Jingles while holding her and likes being able to relate his new friend with the story. He understands when I tell him in the story when Jingles is sad and how happy she is when she is saved. At the end of the story, he was even more excited to find a cute sticker that proudly displays he’s a ResCUTER.
Operation ResCute is a great way to teach children about the hardships these animals face and the importance of adopting pets that many times get overlooked. Growing up, I always wanted a dog, and now as an adult I find that I don’t have the ability to take one on at this time, which is why I love OperationResCute. In addition to teaching my son the importance of adoption and the trials and tribulations that these sweet dogs face, I’m able to contribute to their adoption. While I myself am not in a position to adopt, I love knowing that my purchases at OperationResCute will help rescue dogs. Best of all, Jingles is a great gift idea and perfect for the upcoming holiday season
