I love watching the Food channel as well as finding beautiful food on Pinterest. I also have a binder of ripped out recipes that I eventually want to make if I ever become a SAHM. I really don't have the time to go to the grocery store and grab all the ingredients of a certain recipe only to find myself forgetting something or with spices/vegetables in bulk to never be used again. That's why I am a new fan of Handpick. They do almost all the work for you and you get to take the credit!
You can select from a fabulous selection of meal categories and the cost per meal is extremely affordable. Each box comes with the recipes and ingredients for three amazing meals. The ingredients are expertly packaged in an insulated bag to stay fresh even after a long day of work. You just whip out the recipe you want to make for dinner (or maybe a weekend lunch) and get right to it.

It was perfect timing when my Ranch to Table Box was delivered because Hubs was out of town and I got to surprise the kids with a homemade meal - it's rare that I actually cook because I really do try to avoid the hassle of the grocery store (Hubs does the grocery shopping although we tend to eat out/take out about 5+ times per week). The ingredients are shipped directly from the grocery store rather than a warehouse so it's like having a personal shopper for your dining needs!
I decided on making the Chicken Bruschetta with Balsamic Reduction since the kids love tomatoes and I wanted to introduce them to cauliflower. I love that the cooking directions are simple to follow and large, colorful photos accompany the steps so even the most novice cook can follow along. I was nervous about the raw chicken but tackled it like a pro even without my usual gloves and got into the rhythm of cooking like a pro and even used the big knife to chop. Yeah I'm usually the one who will use a steak knife to cut just about anything - #adultfail.
The aromas slowly filled the kitchen while the kids played. Good thing grandma stopped by to drop off something and stayed while I whipped up dinner. I never realized how easy it was to prepare cauliflower and the simple flavor was delicious - the kids agree! The plating was easy as I just followed the example given on the Handpick sheet.
This meal was a hit in taste and I was even impressed with myself a bit. Who knew it was so easy to prepare bruschetta from scratch? Mason really digged it and I was surprised that he kept asking for more on his chicken. I did end up cooking the chicken longer than advised because I had no idea what it should look like when fully cooked but just made sure to not have any pink inside. Handpick definitely gets a two thumbs up for this meal.
The Cilantro-Lime Steak with Zucchini Fries was full of flavor and the marinade was delicious. Hubs appreciated that I didn't overcook the steak to my usual medium-well liking. The saute part was a bit new to me because the steak sizzled against the hot pan so I definitely gained some basic cooking skills through my Handpick adventure.
The Chicken Curry with Cilantro-Cauliflower Rice was definitely an interesting yet healthy meal. I love a good curry but have never made it even though Hubs has. It was interesting to have the cauliflower in lieu of traditional rice. It was a comfort meal that I could imagine eating on a rainy day cuddled up in front of the TV -- maybe when the kids are grown! Ha.

In short, our experience with Handpick Smart Groceries was very positive and when I told Hubs that the meals start at $6 per meal, he said that we should order often to get that great homemade taste with gourmet presentation. I can imagine a dinner party with friends where this service would come in handy.

ReplyDeleteI appreciate that they have no subscription commitment. So many companies do. It's still a bit more cooking than I'd like to do but that's just because I'm lazy LOL.
