7 Clever Back-To-School Hacks @Target #TargetBTS2015 ad

This post is sponsored by Target.

Kenzie will be entering Kindergarten next week and it is exciting as well as nerve wrecking for me as a parent. I'm happy that she is growing up and will make new friends. Amidst the flurry of paperwork and lunch and after-school arrangements needing to be made, there is also the traditional school shopping fun. We headed to Target, armed with the list, and Kenzie made a beeline towards her favorite section.

Since it's going to be tough getting into a new routine and possibly changing my work hours to accommodate this, I want to share some clever back-to-school hacks that may make the transition a wee bit easier.

1.  USE A HAIR STRAIGHTENER TO QUICKLY IRON HEMS IN THE MORNING

Although I sometimes leave the house with a few wrinkles, I don't want my kid to go off to school looking scruffy. Since I'm not quite the iron pro, using my hair straightener will get the job done in mere minutes plus it heats up in a jiffy! Wait, I guess I could apply this to my own clothing......

2.  USE A BLOW DRYER TO BREAK IN NEW SHOES

New shoes are a must when going Back-to-School or entering grade school. However, since your kid probably wants to have their first "wear" on the first day, they most likely aren't properly broken in. To avoid an ill fit or hurt toes, just put some thick socks on their feet and let them wear their shoes in the house while you "blow dry" the shoes. They will be clean and comfortable to wear on the first day!

3.  STOCK UP ON SCHOOL SUPPLIES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

While there are lots of "deals" on supplies leading up to the first day of school, many retailers will place certain items on sale throughout the year so when you see something your child will most likely need, snatch it up. Target has outdone themselves in their school supply section. Kenzie (and I) were in heaven and started to select supplies on (and off) her list. Target offers all the national brands at a great value as well as new and upcoming brands with equally fun and innovative things you can't resist.

4.  FREEZE A WET SPONGE WHICH MAGICALLY TRANSFORMS
INTO AN AMAZING ICE PACK

Traditional ice packs have that condensation later in the day that turns lunchbox contents into a semi-soggy mess. I have made that mistake many times over but no more with this handy trick. Kenzie's fruit and snacks will stay fresh and cool even on the hottest summer days with the frozen sponge.

5.  REMOVE PERMANENT MARKER OFF CLOTHES WITH HAND SANITIZER

How many times have you wanted to cry when your child comes home with marker all over their clothes? Let's just say that Kenzie didn't always wear her art smock in class and I've had to toss out many nice clothes. Target has the sanitizer with a clever case that can attach right onto your child's backpack for this very purpose -- and sanitizing little hands, of course.

6.  USE A RUBBER BAND TO HOLD TOGETHER APPLE SLICES TO PREVENT
"THE BROWN"

This is a genius hack. No ones likes to eat the brown slices even though they're perfectly fine. A simple rubber band will keep the slices fresh and appealing to kids as they reach for their snack later in the day.

7.  SPLIT BULK ITEMS BETWEEN KIDS

If you have kids that have similar school supply lists, buy multi-packs to get the most bang out of your buck and just split. This works great for us because Mason's list is fairly similar and more pared down. Target offers multi-packs of glue sticks, pencils, erasers and more which makes shopping a breeze for me.

Don't fret about the upcoming back-to-school year and get your child geared up with one stop at Target. This year, they have a new tool that will help you shop the supply list - School List Assist. It's an online destination built specifically to make finding the exact supply easy as 1-2-3!

  10. Great post. I learned so many new things. I had no idea hair straightener could help with wrinkles or that a blow dryer would break in new shoes.

  11. When I was in our university's ROTC program, they told us to shower with our boots on to break them in. This sounds much easier lol!!
