The Westin Monache Resort, Mammoth | Family Friendly for Snow Adventures @visitmammoth @WestinMammoth

Disclosure: I received a weekend stay at Westin Mammoth. All opinions are my own.

Snowboarding :: Hubs and I used to trek to Mammoth Mountain quite often with our season passes when we were dating and newly married. I even hit the mountain when a few months pregnant with Kenzie. The rush of wind in our faces as we hit the fresh powder is a thrill that should be experienced as often as possible. However, when you have a family things change when you look for vacation destinations and accommodations. Everything has to be child-friendly and clean. No exceptions. That's why I was excited to tell Kenzie that she would be experiencing her first ski adventure at Mammoth this past weekend and staying at the awesome Westin Monache Resort.

Although the traffic through LA was a nightmare after work on Friday, check-in was a breeze which resulted in Kenzie snoozing on top of a fluffy Heavenly Bed® immediately upon arrival. Loads of extra pillows that made sweet dreams possible for my little gal.

There were two private bedrooms which means the kids can have a room and the parents can have the other for blissful sleep. If you are rooming with friends, the sofa doubles as a queen-size bed! Plus you can't beat the cozy gas fireplace keeping you warm after playing in the snow.

The view from our suite was beyond stunning. It was so clear and you could see the mountains and snow.

Kenzie's favorite part of the suite was the bathroom with it's spa-like rainfall shower. She was literally singing and dancing in there after her day of skiing. *The tub is huge and generous size for relaxation however we'll have to indulge on a longer stay - it's almost like a mini-pool for my little munchkins.

The modern finishes and spaciousness of the bathroom is a must with children. You would probably be in shock if I gave details on some of the places we've stayed at with friends back in the day when all we cared was boarding, eating and sleeping. Let's just say that I think more for the kids (and myself) when looking for accommodations on vacations.

Kenzie isn't the star I was hoping she would be on the slopes but she had fun and looked cute while doing so. The instructor was nice and her ski class was small (5 total kids) which was really nice. I think she should try boarding lessons next time to become the next Chloe Kim? #InMyDreams

Mason will have to live up to his name (when he turns 3) because he was named after Mason Aguirre!

Hubs and I had a blast. It was like riding a bike - it all came back as soon as I first got off the first lift. The conditions were Spring-like but really nice up top. Feeling the wind and hearing the sounds of clean carving was awesome. My thighs definitely got a workout and my Fitbit even registered steps!

It's awesome that the Gondola is just steps from the resort. Hop on and take it to Canyon to to drop off the kids for lessons and then hit the lifts yourself. Make sure to have garlic fries at lunchtime!

While we eat out quite often, when trying to hit the slopes right as the mountain opens, it is convenient to whip up a quick breakfast right in the room for the kids. Having the full-size kitchen equipped with high-end appliances and stocked with conveniences such as toaster, blender, etc. is really awesome. Eggs, breakfast sandwiches, muffins, cereal and more can be ready in minutes to fill little tummies. You can literally cook an entire dinner if you wanted to!

Or you can just hop down the elevator and feast at the Whitebark Restaurant which is amazing. We've had dinner with friends here several times in the past but since Kenzie and her friends were pretty spent after ski lessons and no nap, we just ordered in from Nik-N-Willie's - yum! It's nice because there is a large dining table to comfortably eat in the room.

Ever since Kenzie was born and we've been vacationing, one of the first things I look for is the pool. It has to be fabulous because Kenzie (and Mason) enjoys swimming. The Westin Mammoth has an outdoor heated swimming pool and two hot tubs to ease those sore muscles after a day of skiing/snowboarding. The temperature wasn't too hot in the hot tubs so the kids had a great time "swimming around" until it became too windy and our towels/flip flops went flying away.

For gym rats like Hubs, the 24-hour WestinWORKOUT® Fitness Studio is what he checked out first. It had everything he needed to keep up with his daily routine and when I peeked in, it seemed very clean and void of sweat stink.  He said that the Swiss balls (for major crunches) were a bonus because most places don't have them. While I don't "exercise" on vacation, Hubs always does, so having a first rate facility in the resort is a must.

The Mammoth Fun Shop had a little pop up in the lobby and Kenzie had a blast checking out the toys with her friends. It is such a great idea since there are so many kids staying at the resort. I just wish the hadn't run out of the snow plow toy because I wanted to get it for Mason. Kenzie played with magical snow and ended up getting some Wikki Stix!

The best part of the trip was watching Kenzie wake up to snow falling outside. She was beyond excited and couldn't wait to suit up to go build Olaf! The scene outside of the room was beautiful and serene. People were already in the hot tub at 8 am - sweet.

All in all, this was a wonderful weekend trip just like we've experienced in the past - - x1000! Kenzie was in bliss as was I and I can't wait to come back to the Westin Monache Resort soon. Most definitely the perfect family (and pet!) friendly resort to have snow adventures in Mammoth.

  2. What a lovely resort. It reminded me of places we stayed in Colorado and Utah, so it's terrific that the ski resorts in California are just as nice.
