Next month, Hubs and I will be celebrating our 9th wedding anniversary. I can't believe it. Time truly does whiz by, even more so after the kiddos. Valentine's Day has always been special to me, especially during my dating years. It was awesome to receive (and give) some rocking gifts and plan for a special date night.

Sadly, Hubs has never been the one to spoil me on Valentine's Day. He let me select a small gift while he was working (on such date) in Las Vegas for the first couple of years of dating. First year of marriage, guess who called Hubs? His ex! I was livid. Let's just say that year wasn't great. Now that I have kids, I try to do something special "from them" to "daddy" and prepare gifts for each of them as well as Kenzie's classmates. Kenzie's face just lights up and she starts dancing. I want that sort of spark!

This year, since Valentine's Day falls on a weekend, I am excited to plan a surprise date night for Hubs and I. My mother-in-law is always gracious to watch the kids because she believes we need some "alone" time once in a while. Although I would love to have a couples massage, Hubs doesn't like massages in general so that is definitely not on my list.

We will have a delicious dinner at one of his favorite restaurants (because I'm so nice like that) and then perhaps watch a movie. No cell phones will have to be the rule. I've tried to enforce that many times at the dinner table (and even at restaurants) but Hubs seems to have extremely short term memory. I know that sounds standard to most of you but for us, who see a movie perhaps 2-3 times a year, it's a luxury.

Excellent dessert is a must. Both Hubs and I have a sweet tooth and indulging in decadent sweets will make the night special. I picked up some K-Y® YOURS+MINE from Walmart for an evening of bonding.

If you tell me that you are just as or even more intimate after kids and many years of marriage as you were while dating, I would have a difficult time believing you. From what I've heard from close friends, the passionate flame dwindles (for some even years!). My mom always told me that I need to spice it up to keep him interested so it will be a fantastic night to get closer to Hubs and build upon our relationship.

  1. My husband and I go out on weekly date nights, so we are always out and about. It's nice that we get so much alone time.

  2. What a great value! My husband and I only go out on dates for special occasions. Like our anniversary. And that's about it. :) We're pretty family oriented, but I think we need to make an effort to go out more with just the two of us.

  3. My husband and I have not been on a date in over 10 years and we do not really celebrate Valentines Day. We squeeze in time to be intimate whenever we can.

  5. I actually don't have anything planned. My husband and I don't usually do anything for Valentine's Day. I usually spend time with my children on Valentine's Day.

  6. My family will not be doing much for Valentine’s Day this year. The kids and I will make a special breakfast for their daddy, followed by a family movie together!

  9. I don't think we'll get to go out alone, but I am looking forward to cuddling up on the sofa to watch Parenthood and having ice cream together once the kids are in bed.
