I love the winter season. While there were parts of Southern California that actually had a sprinkling of snow a couple weeks ago, our neighborhood had a wee bit of drizzle. That makes one want to cozy under throws and stay indoors. Well, myself mainly because I'm sure my kiddos want to put on their rain boots and splash in the random puddles! Kenzie loves playdates and wants to invite her friends over to our home almost everyday. I thought it would be fun to plan a menu around Marie Callender's Pot Pies that I picked up at Walmart.

Who doesn't love pot pies? Our family enjoys chicken pot pies on a regular basis so a party menu planned around them just fits. I was excited to see the individual size Marie Callender's Pot Pies and picked up a variety so our guests could select their favorite: Creamy Parmesan Chicken Pot Pie, Chicken Corn Chowder Pot Pie, Creamy Mushroom Chicken Pot Pie, Turkey Pot Pie, Cheesy Chicken & Bacon Pot Pie, Chicken Pot Pie. Homemade gravy mixed with vegetables and all white-meat chicken, in a golden, perfectly flaky crust that's made from scratch - an all-in-one meal!

After hosting the holidays at our home for the first time ever, I have been getting into tablescapes just like my mama. She even texted photos of her own setup to me with dinnerware that I gave her last Christmas (she's in FL). I like a clean look with minimal colors with different textures. For the place settings, I selected white, square dinnerware with sleek silver flatware along with glass stemless tumblers. Note that you can find stemless acrylic tumblers for the little ones.

The lovely Marie Callender's Pot Pies just need a simple salad for accompaniment. The pies are so hearty and filling and my kids dug right in! Kenzie was a pro making sure to get all the pie crust mixed in with her filling. Clean up is a breeze as well because these pot pies cook right in their own container. You can't beat easy clean up especially after a party. A light and refreshing lemon sorbet was just the right amount of sweet for dessert after a hearty pie.

Lemon Sorbet

-Print Recipe-

Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 1/2 cup Sprite
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1-2 Tbsp lemon zest
  • mint (for garnish)
Directions:

1.  Juice lemons. Save the lemon halves if you'd like to use them for serving.
2.  Combine water, sugar and lemon zest in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir well and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 3 minutes and then allow to cool.
3.  Strain the mixture into a bowl.
4.  Stir in lemon juice and Sprite.
5.  Transfer to a 9x13 baking pan and place in freezer for 2-4 hours. Stir every half hour.
6.  Scoop into lemon half and garnish with mint.
