Celebrate National Recycling Week with Annedroids + How to Make a Kids Guitar #Annedroids #AmazonPrime

Did you know that it's National Recycling Week? Hubs and I used to recycle bags and bags of bottles every few weeks and we felt good that our small part was helping out the environment. Although I am usually quick to toss everything into the trash once empty, since Kenzie was inspired by the Annedroids show on Amazon Prime Instant Video, I gave her free reign to start collecting for her project.

Annedroids is a live-action adventure series about Anne, a young female scientist, who uses things found in her junkyard to create awesome inventions. During each episode, along with android assistants, Anne and her friends are inspired to create fun experiments and projects. This children's programming cleverly adapts STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math). I've always loved math and sciences so this show really speaks to me and I am so happy that Kenzie (and Mason) both find it entertaining and inspirational. I love that this show prompts a child's imagination to make something amazing from junk.

Since building an awesome Annedroid like Pal was out of the question, Kenzie was first interested in creating a guitar from Episode  5: Garbage Band. We scoured the house looking for junk for our project: Candy/cereal box, rubber bands, plastic bottles, tape, Sharpie marker, yoga strap.

Outline an oval shape on the top of the box and then cut out carefully with scissors. Puncture small holes on either side of the oval shape - 4 or 5 should be good. I used a small hook screw which worked perfectly. Cut rubber bands in half which leave it in one long piece. Thread through each hold and knot on other side. Cut a small hold on the top of the box to insert water bottle. Secure with tape. Use a Sharpie to trace the lines of the bottle to imitate frets. Tape yoga strap to guitar to create a guitar strap.

Kenzie and Mason rocked out with their guitars all night and day. It's so much fun creating a family band: Hubs thought I look crazy jumping up and down with the kids.... and then he joined in.

Annedroids is a fantastic show on Amazon Prime Instant Video (Season 1 free for prime members yeah!). Kenzie is inspired to be like Anne - an amazing girl with so much determination and creativity. Kenzie has already been asking to make Robomouse next!

Do your kids watch shows on Amazon Prime Instant Video? What do you think about Annedroids?

  1. I can't decide what's cooler, the show, the craft, or your kids! I think it might be a three way tie.

  2. We really need this to encourage people to recycle more. The human race has been the single most destructive species in this planet's history, and it's time everybody started doing their part to save it for the kids we're leaving behind.
