2014 Holiday Toy Guide | 'Brilliance Award' Winners + #Giveaway

Disclosure: I received 4 toys for review from Brilliant Sky Toys & Books. All opinions are my own.

Just in time for the holidays, Brilliant Sky Toys & Books has released the winners of their Brilliance Award. Interestingly, this year's award winners are toys that really inspire play. The Brilliant Sky Toys & Books chain of stores recognizes quality toys that offer open-ended play and capture a child's fascination and delight. While both Kenzie and Mason are pretty tech savvy for their age (in my opinion, of course), it's heartwarming to see that they prefer to play with even the simplest of toys.

The 2014 Brilliance Award Winners

·        Plus-Plus Mini-Basic (480 pieces)
·        Illustrated Adventure Stories and Illustrated Fairy Tales
·        Doodle Quest
·        Create Your Own Storybook
·        Super Stadium Baseball Game
·        LoopDeLoom

·        Sew Cute Sets

I have always wanted to learn how to sew properly and have the skills to whip out some fabulous handmade pieces for my kids. Alas, my skills are rudimentary and I can stitch a straight line and barely thread the machine. I want to expose Kenzie to anything and everything that she might have an inkling of interest and the Sew Cute Sets will be the perfect starter to learn. It is a simple project with 8 pieces: precut felt pieces, child safe sewing needle, thread, stuffing. This would be a great stocking stuffer for any little girl 8+ years old.

·        Lottie Dolls

These fun fashion dolls are modeled after storybook heroes. The detail from the features to the clothing are downright fabulous. Since these dolls are around 7" tall, they are perfect for toting around everywhere for an adventure. Each piece of clothing is removable as well as the shoes and accessories. You can interchange the clothing with the other Lottie Dolls. Kenzie really enjoys this feature and posing her "Elsa" doll for activities. The storytelling that is encouraged by these dolls is really amazing. I can't wait for Kenzie to grow her collection!

·        Squigz Starter Set

These are fun little things that any child (or adult) can enjoy. 24 pieces are included in the starter set and they can connect to each other or other non-porous surface. It's up to your child's imagination and creativity as the possibilities are endless. From microphones to odd bugs and ice cream cones, these were a great hit with both the kids. We need to get additional pieces because the exclusive white piece was being fought over.

·        Paint Your Own Porcelain Bowls

Kids will delight in this hands on art project. 12 colors of porcelain paint, 3 bowls, a paintbrush and illustrated instructions will keep them busy until it's time to oven bake their masterpiece. Although these are not intended for food, they are great as gifts for your child's grandparents, teachers or even to display proudly in the home. Kenzie loved this "project" and has been asking for more bowls!

All of the selections in the 2014 Holiday Toy Guide from Brilliant Sky will be a delightful addition under the tree this year. Visit a Brilliant Sky Toys & Books store (store locater) today and let your child(ren) fill up their wish list! The toys you will find are perfect for any special occasion including the holidays, birthdays, school graduation, academic achievements and more.
