Disclosure: My cousin received the Jimmy's Gone Green kit for review. All opinions are her own.
My daughter received the Jimmy's Gone Green kit. The kit came with a paperback book Jimmy's Gone Green, four wristbands, a magnet, and a poster with Jimmy's Green Challenge. My six year old daughter was excited because she has been interested in learning about ways she can contribute to helping the environment. My daughter recently learned to read independently, and although she's only in kindergarten, she is reading at a very advanced level, so she was able to read the 36 page book with minimal assistance from me.
The book is great because it raises children's consciousness about various things they can do to become aware of how their actions affect the environment, such as decreasing their water consumption by taking shorter showers or using less water in the bathtub. The book explains terms such as environment and pollution in ways that children can understand. The book offers a ten step guide, with ideas such as riding a bicycle instead of driving, to teach children to do their part in taking care of the Earth. The character Jimmy in the book is depicted on the little magnet we received as well.
The bracelets are designed to help children remember and keep track of their goals, so for example, it says move one wristband to your left arm if you forgot to turn out the lights before going out. My daughter was interested in this concept of striving to keep her wristband on her right arm. She even started telling me when I would break a rule, such as forgetting to recycle a jar or can. And we received four wristbands, enough for each member of the family to have their own. Jimmy's Green Challenge ($19.99) has even inspired me to be more earth friendly, because I want to be a good role model for my children.
