Recaro. I never heard of this brand until it was time to think about moving Kenzie out of her infant car seat. Our friends who are into the car racing scene told us that this brand was the must have for safety so we purchased the Recaro ProRIDE convertible seat and then proceeded to tell all our other friends to purchase the same for their tots. Let's just say I see a lot of Recaro seats on my facebook feed.
Fast forward several years and now that Mason has adopted the ProRIDE, Kenzie will be riding in the Recaro Performance SPORT ($219.49).
"RECARO has over 100 years of history designing seats for the world's most prestigious automobiles, airlines, and race cars. RECARO is German engineered, and an international leader in seating safety, design, comfort and style. RECARO is the pioneer of child seat side impact technology, going beyond any side impact requirements as tested with the ADAC European standard. For your peace of mind - every seat is built with RECARO's superior side impact protection technology."
While superb technology is infused in the core of this carseat, the aesthetic nature is all sport. It really does look like your child could be sitting in a race car ready to zoom ahead. The seat material is clean and sleek allowing for easy wiping if spills occur. There is a SoftTouch seat cushion which features memory foam for a comfortable ride. There are mesh pockets on the sides of the seat for cups/bottles/snacks. This is Kenzie's favorite feature as she always likes to have knick knacks and snacks in the car.
My favorite feature is the EasyAdjust 5-point harness because there is no re-threading required! The two ProRide carseats we have still needs to be re-threaded so no fun there (the newer models have the no re-thread feature). I also love that the strap cushions do not move around and are attached behind the strap opening at the shoulders. Little conveniences like this are really fantastic because who wants to fiddle with having to push up these straps when clipping and tightening the harness? Yes it's a mini luxury. It's also really smooth buckling and clipping Kenzie in. The straps don't twist! I can't tell you the countless seats that have been a struggle just to buckle....well if you really want to know, I'm sure my Hubs will give you an earful.
The side impact protection is designed to distinctly protect 5 vulnerable areas of a child in a side impact collision - their head, neck, face, torso and pelvis. There are some crazy drivers here in Southern California so I feel safe with Kenzie being protected at all times with this advanced car seat.
You can flip the base to the back to allow for a slight recline before installing with the LATCH connectors. The Performance SPORT is to be used only in forward facing mode for children 20-90 lbs/27-50 inches in harness mode and 30-120lbs/37-59 inches in booster mode. As you can see, this is a fantastic option for those who want to transition from an infant seat. It could be the only seat you need until your child outgrows the mandatory state requirements! Since Kenzie is on the smaller side, she may be in this seat until she is ready to drive (maybe kidding).
Overall, Kenzie is a happy camper in her new car seat and is demanding that Mason get the same. Oy oy! I guess it's true that one must purchase 2 of everything - sharing is overrated by my kiddos as least. Recaro is a trusted brand that can be relied upon to keep your little one safe and secure.
