being MVP: Warm your Insides with Indian Chai Tea {Recipe}

Warm your Insides with Indian Chai Tea {Recipe}

With the fall season in effect and winter around the corner, all the coffee shops have started advertising their warm specialties.  However, some days I prefer a nice homemade cup of Indian chai especially during the few moments I have to relax before my kiddo wakes up.  For most Indian cooking there isn’t a standardized form, but below I’ve listed my recipe for my favorite cold weather drink with adjustable options to cater to your own taste preference.

Serving size: 1 cup

Ingredients:

½ cup water
¾ cup fat free milk (more if you prefer a weaker taste)
1 tablespoon Indian loose black tea (more if you prefer stronger)
1 tablespoon sugar
1/8 tsp of chai masala
2 or 3 Mint leaves (optional)
1 thin slice of ginger (optional)

Fill a small pot with water.  Add chai, sugar chai masala and optional items and bring to a boil over medium heat.

After the tea is heavily boiling, let it to continue to boil for another 3 minutes and then add in milk.  This will cool the tea down.

Wait for the tea to boil again and rise.

I let the tea rise to the top without spilling over and lower the heat or remove pot from heat to bring the tea down.  Repeat two more times and then turn off stove (if you prefer a stronger taste you can repeat this step a couple more times).

Use a tea strainer to pour into your favorite cup or travel mug and enjoy!

  10. I have never had chai tea before. I think this is the first tea where you actually want to bring it to a boil. Looks like a lot of effort, but the end result looks most inviting!
