Jazz for Babies & Giveaway!

My cousin reviewed the following and here are her thoughts:

We received a set of five Jazz for Babies CDs.  Each album features a different instrument, including vibraphone, saxophone, guitar, grand piano, and trumpet.  These albums were compiled by musician Michael Janisch after he became a parent himself.  He gathered a group of musicians from across Europe to create a collection of classic songs that have been adapted into lullabies. Janisch himself plays double bass on every song.  The songs are very soothing and perfect to listen to at bedtime when I’m trying to get the kids to wind down.  I am a big fan of anything that can promote a little serenity in my home.  I  like them because they have no lyrics.  We have a couple of other lullaby CDs but I feel like my kids get distracted listening to the words of the songs or trying to sing along with them.  These are less stimulating when we’re trying to settle down for bed.

They also work for people of different linguistic backgrounds. My husband and I both played an instrument growing up, and we were both in marching band in high school, so I feel like it is important to instill a love of music in my children at an early age.  I want them to grow up with an appreciation of different types of music.  I have read many articles that suggest it is beneficial to children’s brain development to listen to music at a young age.  Jazz for Babies is a refreshing change from the processed and mechanical sounds we hear on many children’s CDs. I like that the albums feature songs that are familiar to me, even though my children may not recognize them.  I especially enjoyed Unforgettable on the trumpet album and What A Wonderful World on the saxophone album.  My other favorite was Georgia On My Mind on the guitar album.

www.JazzforBabies.org has an interactive website where parents are able to hear a sample of each of the 75 unique tracks.  These CDs would be perfect for a baby shower gift for a new mother. These albums can even be used to play music to unborn babies in the womb.  The CDs are designed for up to age 3, but really they can appeal to any age.  I even find them relaxing myself after a stressful day with the kids.  They are also available as MP3s.  These CDs are a saving grace for sleep deprived mothers everywhere who are struggling to get a restless toddler down to sleep.
