When the power goes out at home, what to do but venture out on a drive and end up at Walmart to hang out while we waited for notice of power.  We ended up driving past a couple of cities when I mentioned that Kenzie needed more Velveeta Shells and Cheese.  Hubs said there was a Walmart not too far so we went and decided to peruse while waiting.  Check out my shopping excursion!

When I was pregnant with Kenzie, I had Hubs buy me the individual size Velveeta Shells and Cheese in mass quantities.  I somehow had a love for this perfect snack.  Fast forward to when Kenzie started eating regular foods, I thought it was natural she would like my craving but it took a while for her to enjoy the deliciousness known as Velveeta.  However, once she finally ate her first serving, she was hooked and has been ever since.  She digs into the cabinet and requests it almost everyday.

I love the individual servings in a handy microwavable bowl because all you need is to add water, microwave for 3.5 minutes and then mix in the cheesy goodness of Velveeta.  Voila - mama made the perfect snack.  Sometimes I mix in a cube of Mason's pureed veggies but Kenzie, the ever sensitive connoisseur of her shells and cheese, knows and starts to pick out the green bits.  She likes the classic Velveeta Shells and Cheese as is but will, on occasion, allow me to give her a side of steamed edamame to eat with it.  Guess who is the newest Shells and Cheese lover?  Mason loves it so much that he points his hand to the bowl for more!

I've never purchased the larger family size but decided to do so on this occasion and this summer is all about the BBQ with family and friends.  When we order BBQ from restaurants, they always have the mac&cheese options.  However, when we BBQ at home or the park, no one ever brings the liquid gold as a side.  I decided I would start the tradition of making the Family Size Velveeta Shells and Cheese.  We had a potluck this past weekend with some friends and guess what was the hit?  The kids requested it before I even said I was making it and the adults enjoyed several servings.  This is delicious on its own in the classic way.  The flavor is rich and creamy and tummies are satisfied.  The dish is always a favorite leaving people wanting more.  I will have to start making double batches!

Although our family enjoys eating Velveeta Shells and Cheese in the classic way, I am definitely going to explore my culinary skills with awesome recipes at Velveeta.com.  These are full on meals!  Some of the ones that I plan on attempting are: Cheesy Texan Skillet, Wild West Baked Chili Mac, and Deep Dish Pizza Casserole.  All seem to be relatively easy and quick to make for a weeknight dinner.

  2. I've never tried the velveeta shells before, but they certainly look delicious! I will have to give them a try. :) The Deep Dish Pizza Casserole looks awesome! It kind of seems more taco-ish to me than pizza-ish though. :) Yum!
