My friend Femi Corazon at Coralily Photography reviewed the Paul Frank Retractable Leash from 26 Bars & a Band and here are her thoughts:
After a collar, that's the second thing you need for a dog - especially one you are rescuing from a shelter. In fact, they won't let you leave the shelter without a leash attaching your new friend to you.
Admittedly, pretty soon after they get home with you, it isn't just a leash that keeps your doggie pal attached to you - it's heartstrings and yummy treats - but a leash remains a necessary tool for training, walks and safety. My little guy, Hershey, a dark silver Klein poodle that I rescued from the Lancaster Animal Shelter, is a really obedient dog and a joy to walk with. He already knew a lot of commands when I got him, including "heel", so I felt comfortable using a retractable leash with him.
The Paul Frank retractable leash from 26 Bars and a Band is a stylish, incredibly functional leash that is a joy to use. Looking past the stylish design, 26 Bars and a Band didn't hold back on functional features. For example, the ergonomic rubber handle is really comfortable to hold on long walks, and your hand doesn't get tired.
Hershey is 25lbs, and even though the small is designed for dogs up to 28lbs, we got the medium size so that my husband would have no trouble fitting his hand into the handle. The nylon leash is all-belt: no wimpy strings that end up cutting into your arm if you get tangled up. The brake mechanism is extremely easy to operate and hasn't slipped at all in the time I've used it.
The leash belt, when released and unlocked, has a nice tension on it, to the point that Hershey - who is not a puller - responds to the tension by staying close to me.
However, on the occasions that he gets excited and pulls away, it's super easy to flip the brake and keep the leash at a reasonable length. The retracting mechanism is super smooth.
This leash will stand the test of time - in fact, the first time out, I dropped it on the concrete sidewalk and it skidded across the pavement about three feet. When I picked it up, the Signature Julius design had nary a scratch on it and the case was still intact.
Impressive! Their three-year warranty is also a huge plus.
A leash that is sturdy, well-made, easy to use and keeps Hershey safe - all the while keeping him stylish and looking hip and cool for da ladies? We love!
We recommend this leash with all four paws up.
