I have a slight obsession with strollers. Hubs doesn't understand why one needs more than one stroller...period. I tried to explain that each stroller has a different function but since we don't have the luxury of a stroller garage (if I won the lotto perhaps), he is not very supportive. However, when I received the Peg Perego Skate System (he put it together late at night) I think I have won him over. Plus the new 2012 denim fabric may have helped a bit since he does work in the denim business. It was also nice when strangers at the mall came up to us and Hubs excitedly told them it was an awesome stroller and rattled off some details. We even let them "test" drive it.
The Skate system may be the only stroller you ever need (even if you plan on having 2 or more children). It can accomodate a bassinet (included) for infants, Peg Perego carseat with adapters (included), stroller seat (for older babies/toddlers) and a jump seat (must be purchased separately) for another child. This stroller really does live up to its name "skate" as it glides over the ground with just a one handed push.
This stroller is packed with so many features and details that one really will have fun with it. First of all, the stroller seat is lined with a cushy denim fabric ensuring enough padding for your child to be comfortable for long duration. It features the 5-point safety harness which is easily adjusted to accomodate your child's size. There are three positions for height adjustment. Kenzie is using the lowest one so lots of room for growth. A removable front bar is included but since Kenzie doesn't like it on there we're saving it for bean. The wheels are designed with ball bearings and shock absorbing springs for a smooth ride.
One of my favorite features is the hidden expandable hood. Just unzip and pull down for awesome sun coverage. The bonus is that you can either use the full hood (denim fabric) or opt for the mesh cover on overcast days or if you want more breeze. It's as simple as just folding the fabric over to reveal the mesh!
There is full recline on the stroller seat. Just lift the lever on the back of the seat and tilt to your desired angle. It is very smooth and you can easily do it without waking a sleeping baby. I actually did it with Kenzie and we got through half our dinner before she woke up!
Note that the seat itself is not flat but rather molded. I actually like this feature for Kenzie since she doesn't like to lie flat in her stroller while sleeping. It's odd but whatever works right? I think this seat also provides more support and structure.
The seat is also reversible to face toward parent. Just push down on the side clips, lift, turn around and click down. So simple that one could even do it (safely) with an infant in the seat. It's a bit difficult with a toddler due to weight.
The reverse feature is great when you want to maintain eye contact with your child and/or the child feels more secure when you are in their sight. Kenzie loves looking out at people while we are out and about but some days she just wants her mama :) There is also a toy loop incorporated in the hood which will be great for Bean.
The handlebar is also easy to adjust by clicking open the rectangular silver tabs on both sides and changing the angle. It ranges from super low (for shorter people) to straight up (for the tall people). I think I'm average in height (5'6") and find it comfortable right in the middle whereas Hubs (6'1") prefers it straight up.
Bean will most likely be using the bassinet feature when he first faces the world because it is literally like a teeny bed on wheels. Please note that you can also use it independently without the stroller. The bassinet clicks onto the stroller frame just like the stroller seat. It is lined with a plush pad and is pretty sizable in both length and depth. Bean will definitely be cozy in it. The cover actually doubles as a foot muff (for the stroller seat). It easily comes off with just two buttons from the bassinet and zips right onto the stroller seat. This is great for colder climates (or California snowy mountains!).
The hood from the stroller seat can easily be used with the bassinet as well which provides complete coverage from the elements when expanded fully. There is also bassinet stand you can purchase separately to use with your bassinet.
I love the underneath storage area. It is large and unique. The mesh bottom allows for flexibility and the bungee cords keep packages in place (if they are oddly shaped or whatnot). I just started tossing stuff on it and it stayed put throughout the outing. You can also opt to use the shopping basket (included). This is great if you are storing small items and/or items you want to take with you at your destination/home. The basket is removable and collapsible so technically you can leave it collapsed in the stroller and then expand it when needed. The brake is also easy to use with even flip flops on.
In addition to the bassinet and stroller seat options, one can use this frame with a carseat. Adapters for the carseat are included with the system however they can only be used with the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30-30 carseat. I think additional adapters made available for different brands of carseats (if people already own a different make) would be nice.
The open and close on this fully stocked stroller is amazingly simple even for a big 'ole preggo like me. Just lift up on the lever on the base of the handle, press down with your foot where it says "fold" and push down. It locks into place with the huge latch on the side. It fits perfectly into the back of our SUV with the stroller seat attached.
I have to admit that my least favorite part of the stroller is the cupholder but that is an easy remedy. I also wish the visual instructions came with verbal as well but since I didn't actually put the stroller together it's moot.
There are a few accesories I am excited about for use with our Skate System: the child's tray, jumper seat and umbrella! Please note that the raincover is included with the Skate system. It has not yet rained when we've been out so I haven't used it yet.
