Watching TV & DVDs Educational for Toddlers?

Kenzie's newest DVD is Dance Pocoyo Dance received from Coupons are Great.  Kenzie loves watching "Poco" and his friends "Pato" and "Elleee".  She's even started to imitate his moves i.e. laying on ground, covering mouth when laughing and his fantastic dance moves of course!

Kenzie also watches Barney (although I told myself if I ever had children they would be banned from watching it....), Sesame Street and various other children's shows.  I read in many books and on several websites that children should not watch TV or be limited to the amount of watching TV because it leads to obesity and slower learning.  I disagree.  Kenzie has learned so much thus far (she's a genius after all) and would choose playing outside over TV/DVD anyday.  If the shows had no educational value, I don't believe they would have lasted from MY childhood.

Kenzie is also very proficient in using the iPad and iPhone.  She swipes and taps to watch her favorites on youtube, play angry birds and find her favorite photo of her cousin.  She also attends Gymboree music/art classes and will be starting "school" at a church next week for an hour/week.

Do I believe this is too much at the age of 1?  I believe as long as Kenzie is enjoying something there is no limit as to the amount.  However, I must admit that I do tire easily going down the slides over and over at the park!

  2. Lol. Yeah I think my little tot is better at using my phone than I am. She is always snaping pictures and recording videos. As far as TV goes...Barney...uhg, but it is favorite. We love Sesame Street. Yes, I do beleive that they can learn from watching shows, but we do have to limit the amout of TV time. Patricia
